India on the verge of series loss against South Africa!

CRICDOT DESK : South Africa finished the third day on the verge of victory against India in the third and final Test. After losing 2 wickets at the target of 212 runs, the host Proteas added 101 runs to the scoreboard at the end of the third day of the second innings.

Dean Elgar’s team will have to score another 111 runs to win. Elgar 30 and Aiden Markram 18 runs were out. Keegan Petersen is unbeaten on 47 runs. Jaspreet Bumrah and Mohammad Shami took one wicket each for India.

Earlier, in the second innings, India scored 196 runs in the century of Rishav Pant. In this innings, Pant fought alone for India. He picked up the century. Pant, who made a half-century off 56 balls, took 133 balls to pick up his century. He had 6 fours and 4 sixes in his unbeaten innings. Virat Kohli scored the second highest 29 runs for India. 10 runs came from Lokesh Rahul’s bat. None of the others could touch the double digit house. Marco Janssen took 4 wickets for South Africa. Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Engidi took three wickets each.

The Proteas were all out for 210 in the first innings. Jaspreet Bumrah took 5 wickets. Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav both took two wickets each. Keegan Petersen scored 72, Temba Bavuma 26, Keshav Maharaj 25 and Van der Dussen 21 for the Proteas.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat in the last Test of the three-match series, Kohli’s side failed to make much of an impact. Lokesh Rahul left for 31 runs. Mayank Agarwal returns with 6 balls to spare. Marco Janssen broke the Pujara-Kohli alliance, signaling resistance.

Ajinkya Rahane fell victim to Rabada. Rishav Pant could not make the innings big due to the pace of the Proteas. Though at one end captain Kohli was adamant. He was on his way to the century with the 28th fifty of his career. But the Indian captain had to stop the team with 211 runs. The highest 69 runs in Tests since November 2019 came from his bat. India were bowled out for 223 on the day of Kohli’s century miss. Rabada took 4 wickets for the hosts. Jansen took 3 wickets.

The three-match Test series is currently tied at 1-1. India won the first Test by 113 runs and advanced to the series, but the hosts turned around in the second Test. In the second Test, the Proteas lost by a huge margin of 6 wickets.
