Babar Azam proved me wrong: Shahid Afridi

Babar Azam is still the new captain of International Cricket. But he was the first captain to beat India in a World Cup match. This makes him the most important leader in the history of cricket in Pakistan. The team also won all the games during the league stage, showing a dominant run in the recently completed T20 World Cup.

2021 was a great year for both Pakistan and Azam. Pakistan was the first team to achieve this feat with 20 out of 29 T20Is. In addition, Azam made 1,779 runs on the T20 Cricket in 2021. Pakistan finished third in the men’s T20I team ranking with 265 points.

In a conversation with Samaa TV, former Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi said he did not support Azam as the captain of the Pakistani crew. He added that there is a lot of pressure to be the captain of the Pakistani team. Afridi thought that pressure would adversely affect Azam’s influence.

“I was worried that Babar Azam would put a lot of pressure on me. The captain of the Pakistan team is not a joke. As a captain, you have to deal with the media and the players. The captain is a PCB. And you also need to talk to the selection committee. I wasn’t sure he (Azam) could lead the team. But he disagreed with me in his performance (as captain), “Afridi said.

Afridi advised Shaheen to wait a year or two before assuming the role of captain.
On December 20, Lahore Callandals announced Shaheen Afridi as the new leader for the upcoming Pakistan Super League season. He replaced Sohail Akhtar, who had been the captain of the team for the past two seasons. Shaheen is Qalandar’s main wicker car.

Afridi also said he advised Shaheen to wait a year or two before running a Pakistani team or franchise.

“Shahid Afridi advised me to wait a year or two before becoming captain so I could focus more on bowling, but he was also Afridi, so he didn’t listen to me.” Afridi said.
