South Africa has two other wicketkeepers, Kyle Verreynne and Ryan Rickelton, but it’s still unclear who will get the chance. Still, De Cock, who hasn’t played, will hit the team hard due to his lack of experience.
His possible alternative is not much experience with the longest format of the game. While Ryan Rickelton hasn’t made his international debut yet, Berain has played only two friendly matches so far.
As for the ongoing friendly match, India recorded the first inning run of 327 times thanks to the shimmering tons from KL Rahul. Visitors would have hoped to exceed 400 runs, but when India lost the last 7 wickets in just 55 runs in the first session, Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada caused a breakdown on the third day.
South African batters stumbled at 32/4 points and found it difficult to respond. India’s Pastrio, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shiraji did not take the club off-hook and stole the wicket with a new ball, but the partnership between Decock and Tenbababuma helped the home team recover a bit.
