Mustafiz’s Delhi pick first win beating Mumbai


CRICDOT DESK : Mostafizur Rahman is on a three-day compulsory quarantine after touring India after the ODI series in South Africa. Without him, Delhi Capitals will play their first match in the 15th edition of IPL.

Delhi have won their first match against Mumbai Indians. After chasing 16 runs, Delhi added 30 runs in the inaugural 21-ball scoreboard and then lost 5 wickets for 42 runs off just 36 balls.

Delhi’s loss was predictable as they lost 5 wickets for 72 runs in 9.4 overs. All that was left was formality. There was no recognized batsman in Delhi’s lower order to handle the pace of Jaspreet Bumrah and Timel Mills.

But Lalit Yadav took the sixth wicket with Shardul Tagore and made a pair of 32 runs off 22 balls. Lalit then left-arm spinner Akshar Patel with an unbeaten 65 off 30 balls to give the team a 4-wicket victory 10 balls earlier. Lalit Yadav scored an unbeaten 48 off 36 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. Akshar Patel made 36 off 18 balls with two fours and three sixes.

Mumbai openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan got off to a flying start after losing the toss at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on Sunday. They made a pair of 8 runs in 6.2 overs.

Mumbai then lost 4 wickets for 55 runs. However, opener Ishan Kishan kept one end of the wicket. He played until the last ball of the innings. His unbeaten 61 off 46 balls with 11 fours and two sixes gave Mumbai a 16-run lead for five wickets. Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 41 off 32 balls with four boundaries and two sixes.
