Lara and Steyn become IPL coach for the first time
Caribbean legend Brian Charles Lara is set to start his IPL career as a coach. IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad has appointed him as a strategic advisor and batting coach for the upcoming season. Sri Lankan superstar Muttiah Muralitharan is already the spin bowling coach in the team. Former Proteas speed star Dale Steyn is joining Lara and Murali as pace bowling coaches.
Sunrisers Hyderabad collapsed in the last edition of IPL. They won only 3 out of 14 matches in the preliminary round. Since then they have changed the team and coaching staff. Former captain David Warner, who won the title, left angrily. Tom Moody has returned as head coach following the cancellation of a franchise contract with Trevor Bayliss. Former Australian batsman Simon Katich has been appointed as the assistant coach.
Former Indian batsman Hemang Badani has been appointed as the fielding coach to make up for the shortfall in the field. The auction of this year’s IPL will be held on 12 and 13 February. Hyderabad have retained fast bowler Umran Malik and all-rounder Abdul Samad along with captain Kane Williamson since last season.
All in all, Hyderabad’s coaching panel is now a star market. Will these stars be able to bring the title to Hyderabad this time?
