Jadeja’s heroics put India in driver seat
CRICDOT DESK : Rabindra Jadeja’s career-best innings helped India to a run-scoring streak against Sri Lanka in the Mohali Test. India declared their first innings at 574 for 6 with Jadeja unbeaten on 165. In reply, Sri Lanka scored 106 runs for 4 wickets at the end of the second day. The Sri Lankans are still trailing by 48 runs with 8 wickets in hand.
At the end of the first day of Virat Kohli’s 100th Test, India scored 356 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 65 overs. Wicketkeeper Panth returned with 96 runs. Jadeja was unbeaten on 45 and Rabindran Ashwin on 10. After a 104-run stand with Panth for the sixth wicket, Jadeja took 130 for the seventh wicket with Ashwin. Ashwin was out for 61 runs. Then Jadeja was 1 run away from the century. Jadeja tasted the second century of his Test career in the 111th over of the Indian innings. He hit three figures in 160 balls. Jadeja had earlier scored his first Test century in 2016 against the West Indies in Rajkot.

After the century, Jadeja made a quick run with the bat. Jadeja made 103 off 94 balls with Mohammad Sami for the ninth wicket. In the end, he made 175 runs off 226 balls with 16 fours and 3 sixes. Sami remained unbeaten on 20 runs. Sri Lanka’s Ambuldenia-Lakmal and Fernando took two wickets each.
After the announcement of India’s innings, Sri Lanka could not take advantage with the bat. They lost 4 wickets to make 108 runs. India’s Ashwin took 2 wickets and Bumrah-Jadeja took 1 wicket each.
Sri Lanka captain Dimuth Koranaratne was dismissed for 26, Lahiru Thirimanne for 18, Angelo Mathews for 22 and Dhananjaya de Salva for one. Pathum Nishanka remained unbeaten on 26 and Charith Asalanka on 1.
