BENO-QUADIR trophy unveiled, all set to lock horn
CRICDOT DESK : This is the first time since 1998 that the Australian cricket team has visited Pakistan. Ajibahini will play three Tests, three ODIs and a T20I on Pakistani soil. Babar Azam’s Pakistan and Pat Cummins’ Australia face off in the first Test in Rawalpindi on Friday.
Babur-Cummins unveiled the trophy on Wednesday before facing off in red ball cricket. The trophy is named after two legendary spinners, Richie Beno and Abdul Qadir. The trophy is named Beno-Qadir Trophy.
Benoit was a member of the Australian Test team that visited Pakistan in 1956. This was Ajid’s first visit to Asia. Three years later, Australia returned to Pakistan. Beno was the captain then. Seba Benoit’s team won the series 2-0. Benoit took 246 wickets in 63 Tests for Australia. After leaving cricket, he gained a reputation as a commentator. This legendary commentator is called ‘Voice of Cricket’. Beno died in 2015.
On the other hand, in the seventies and eighties, Abdul Qadir took leg spin to the stage of art. The Pakistan spinner took 236 wickets in that Test for Pakistan. Qadir’s record against Australia was very good. He took 45 wickets in 11 Tests.
