BCB on the verge of sacking Nannu and appoint Faruk as selector!
CRICDOT DESK : Bangladesh national team is currently at New Zealand tour. Among 3 Selector Abdur Razzak has gone to New Zealand with the team. The other two selectors Minhazul Abedin Nannu and Habibul Bashar remain here. Maybe the last team given by this selection committee is now on a tour of New Zealand. Because according to the agreement, the last working day of 31st December is for the chief selectors Minhazul Abedin Nannu and Habibul Bashar. If the BCB does not renew the contract or extend the contract, Nannu-Habibul will have to be dropped. If left out, Abdur Razzak may have to continue working alone.
A director of the BCB said that the selection panel is being restructured. Faruk Ahmed has been offered to return to the post of chief selector. He also gave some conditions to the proposer. Faruk has no objection to return to the post of chief selector if these are implemented. When Farooq returns, the Nannu chapter is coming to an end this month. If the panel is reconstituted, the board officials are in favor of excluding Bashar along with Nannu. The decision will be taken at the next board meeting.
Many consider Faruk Ahmed as the best selector of Bangladesh. When he was the chief selector in 2005 and 2006, he gave a chance to Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah in the national team. When Akram Khan became the BCB director, Faruk returned to the post of chief selector. Faruk worked with Nannu and Bashar till June 2016.
Farooq then resigned as chief selector in protest of the BCB’s two-tier selection committee. Nannu was then made the chief selector and a two-member selection panel was formed. Until 2020, the BCB will work with a two-member selection panel. Razzak was appointed to the three-member panel this year. The new committee in 2022 may also have three members. Asked about this, a director said on condition of anonymity, “There may be a change in the post of chief selector. If Farooq Bhai does not come, the current committee may be left.” The decision will be taken at the board meeting.
Some of the directors are in favor of forming a new panel, excluding Nannu and Bashar. They also said that there was no need to restructure the panel unless the two were left out.
If Bashar is left out in the end, Nafis Iqbal may be included in the selection panel. Although Nafis Iqbal is working in multiple positions in BCB. Has been transferred from Game Development Manager to Cricket Management. Since Sabbir Khan’s resignation from the BCB, he has been acting as the logistics manager of the national team since the Pakistan series. If Farooq Ahmed is the chief selector, Nafis will have to stay in the cricket management department.
Asked if he wanted to return to the post of chief selector, Farooq Ahmed declined to comment. Even without comment, the possibility of his return is not going to be ruled out. He has no objection to work with Khaled Mahmud Sujan. In that case, Sujan will supervise the work of the selection committee as the board director. Farooq resigned in protest of the inclusion of former national team head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and manager Khaled Mahmood Sujan in the selection committee.
