Australia likely to appoint Daniel Vettory as spin coach for Pakistan tour!
CRICDOT DESK : Australia have agreed to tour Pakistan after a long absence of 24 years, but their spin bowling coach Sridharan Sriram is not going with the team. Cricket Australia (CA) has opted for New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori to replace India’s Sridharan as he refused to tour Pakistan for the first time since 1998.
Since Sridharan, who has been in charge of the spin department since 2016, did not visit, Ajira wants to hand over the responsibility of the spin department to Vettori. Cricket Australia (CA) officials are in talks with Vettori for a tour of Pakistan.
A spokesman for the board confirmed the matter to Cricketer. The spokesman said he was in talks with Vettori to take up interim responsibilities. A few days later, Australia will leave the country for a historic visit to Pakistan. With less time on hand, it is being speculated that the deal may not work out. The last time Australia went on a tour without support staff was in 2013. Ajira was whitewashed 4-0 in that tour in India. Earlier, the CA wanted to give the responsibility to Vettori. In England, Vettori has experience working in various franchise tournaments in addition to The Hundred, Indian Premier League (IPL). Apart from this, he has also worked as the spin bowling coach of Bangladesh till 2019-21.
Cricket Australia has held talks with a few others locally. Who play specific roles with spinners, especially during preparatory or pre-season camps and during home series. But in the end they were not considered. Australia will play three Tests, one ODI and one T20I in the upcoming tour of Pakistan. The Test series will start from March 3 and the ODI series will start from March 29. The only T20 match will be played on April 5.
