CRICDOT DESK : The two most memorable names in the field of sports in Bangladesh are Shahid Abdul Halim Chowdhury, Jewel Bir Bikram and Shahid Mushtaq Ahmed. It has been less than a year since two regular teams formed a friendly match on Victory Day due to coronavirus. This time BCB has organized an exhibition cricket match on the occasion of Victory Day. The match of T20 format has started at 11 am at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur on the day of great victory.

As usual, the squad has been formed with former star cricketers. Each team has 15 cricketers. The two teams played in the name of Shahid Jewel, the heroic cricketer who took part in the liberation war and Shahid Mushtaq who lost his life last night. Shahid Mushtaq XI defeated Shahid Jewel XI by 42 runs in the Victory Day Exhibition T20 match at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. Batting first, Shahid Mushtaq XI scored 150 runs. In reply, Jewel lost 6 wickets and ended the innings with 106 runs.

After losing the toss, Shahid Mushtaq got off to a good start. Shahriar Hossain Bidyut and Athar Ali Khan scored 52 runs in the opening over. Bidyut returned to the dressing room with 26 runs off 24 balls.

Then Athar completed half a century and Athar completed half a century. Before returning to the dressing room, he made 60 off 55 balls with the help of 6 fours and 1 six. Besides, Khaled Masood Pilot played a stormy innings. He was unbeaten on 31 off 15 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Among others, Mohammad Rafique scored 15 off 16 balls and Javed Omar Belim scored 6 off 6 balls. Chief selector Minhazul Abedin Nannu could not spread the light with the bat. He became the victim of Mehrab by scoring 3 runs from 4 balls.

Mahmudul Hasan Rana took two wickets for Shahid Jewel XI. Sajal Chowdhury, Mehrab Hossain Opi and Mushfiqur Babu got one wicket each.

From the start of batting for the target of 151 runs, the wickets fell and Mushtaq XI’s bowlers never got momentum for the tight bowling of Jewel XI. Mushtaq XI lost 5 wickets for just 6 runs in 14.2 overs. After that he batted for 20 overs and lost 6 wickets for 106 runs in the innings of Jewel XI. The highest 29 * comes from Habibul Bashar Sumon’s bat. Tareq Aziz and Sanwar Hossain took two wickets each.

Prominent sports organizer Mushtaq was brutally killed on the night of March 25 at the beginning of the war of liberation. Jewel, an aggressive opener and a fearless member of the crack platoon, was captured by the Pak army in the middle of the liberation war. Jewel, who took part in several guerrilla operations in Dhaka, was not found. A friendly cricket match was organized on Victory Day in their memory.
